The New Reserve Leopard's Eye 2014

The New Reserve Leopard's Eye 2014

We are proud to release our new Reserve Leopard's Eye 2014! This Merlot-driven Bordeaux Blend doesn't shy away from wearing its predominant characteristics which is synonymous with grapes from the Bottelary area in Stellenbosch. The varietals in the blend include 43% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Crumbly clay sub-soil and weathered granite gives the wine an upfront mulberry and herbaceous nose which makes way for a broad and juicy palate that leaves the tastebuds wanting more. Ample structure and fine tannins make this wine perfect for cellaring for 7 - 10 years or you may enjoy it now and pair it with a juicy steak or Sunday roast lamb.
The harvest in the Bottelary area commenced two weeks later than normal due to late, cold winter conditions and a cooler spring. It was a promising harvest with regards to quality. Moderate climate conditions during the harvest season contributed to intense colour, extraordinary flavour and good structure in red wines.
The grapes were harvested, destemmed and cold soaked for 3 days before fermentation commenced. This process followed in stainless steel red wines fermenters for approximately 10 days. Aroma and colour extraction were achieved by aerated pump-overs 3 times daily. The wine was aged in second fill French Oak barrels for 23 months.
