Merlot has a deep crimson red colour. Aromas of fragrant plums, oak-spice and mint attracts the nose and prepares the palate for entry of plush red berries and brooding mulberry deliciousness. The wine is medium-bodied with juicy tannins and a soft dry finish.
The grapes were hand-picked in the early morning from the Swartland region. Although the harvest season proved challenging, smaller berries meant good colour and flavour intensity. The bunches were de-stemmed and gently crushed before being placed into tanks for 48-hour cold maceration. Flavour and colour extraction was obtained by punch downs twice daily. Hereafter half of the wine was pumped into 225L French Oak barrels and the rest remained in stainless steel tanks with French oak staves. A mix of 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill barrels were used and the wine was aged for 12 months.
