TRIPLE AWARD WINNER
This Merlot has a dark ruby red colour. Concentrated and intense with fragrant mulberries and dustings of mint and chocolate on the nose followed by mouthfuls of juicy plums and plump red fruits. The palate is broad with well-integrated oak and fine tannins, ending in a perfectly tapered tail.
The grapes were harvested from Stellenbosch. The 150ha estate has vineyards lying from 160m to 410m above sea level and slopes facing North, South, East and West. The farm benefits from cooling breezes and coastal fog due to its close proximity to both the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
Despite a smaller crop, good quality wines are expected from this vintage. Smaller wine grape berries have a greater concentration of flavours and wines also show good acidity, sugar, and elegance.
The grapes were picked cold in the early mornings between 23 ̊ and 24 º Balling sugar ripeness. Fermentation in open-top tanks on the skins peaked between 25 - 28º Celsius and lasted from 7 to 10 days. The wine was pumped into 225L French oak barrels. A mix of 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill barrels were used and the wine was aged for 12 months.
This Merlot is well suited for a variety of dishes. Try pairing with Penne Arrabiata, Mediterranean Lamb Burgers or Grilled Beef Fillet with Bearnaise sauce.
